Bedingt durch die Erfahrungen im 1. Weltkrieg mit
der zu diesem Zeitpunkt schwer beschaffbaren
Kohle als Energielieferant beschloss die SBB neben
der raschen Elektrifizierung des Streckennetzes
auch eine neue Rangierlokomotive mit Elektroantrieb
zu entwickeln. Die ersten beiden Prototypen wurden
bereits 1924 in Dienst gestellt. 1928 erfolgte eine
erste Serie. Die 1932 in Dienst gestellte 2. Bauserie
mit insgesamt 46 Loks unterscheidet sich jedoch
optisch markant von dieser ersten Serie. Alle Nach-
folgeserien, die sogar noch bis 1966 gefertigt wur-
den, halten sich von den Proportionen her an die
2. Bauserie. Mit einem Gewicht von nur 45 Tonnen
konnte bei diesem Loktyp eine Achslast von maxi-
mal 15 Tonnen eingehalten werden, Die Höchstge-
schwindigkeit von 40 km/h ermöglichte auch einen
Betrieb als Streckenlokomotive. Die anfängliche
Leistung von 430 kW wurde bis zu 507 kW bei den
letzten Modellen gesteigert. Eingesetzt wurde diese
Rangierlok im gesamten Gebiet der SBB. Trotz des
Alters ist auch heute noch dieser Loktyp im Dienst-
Information about the Prototype
In the light of the experiences in World War I with
the shortages in coal at that time, the SBB decided
to develop a new electric switch engine in addition
to rapidly electrifying its route network. The first two
prototypes were placed into service as early as
1924. The first production group followed in 1928.
The second product group of 46 locomotives placed
into service in 1932 differed quite a bit in appearance
from the first series. All of the production groups
that followed right up to 1966 follow the second
group in their proportions. With a weight of only
45 metric tons, the axle load on this locomotive
class could be held to a maximum of 15 metric tons.
The maximum speed of 40 km/h / 25 mph made it
possible to run this locomotive as a road engine.
The initial performance of 430 kilowatts / 577 horse-
power was increased to 507 kilowatts / 680 horse-
power on the last models. This switch engine was
used all over the SBB network. Despite its age, this
locomotive class can still be seen today in service.
