VoiceTone Mic Mechanic is like a sound tech in your pocket!
One of the most crucial components of any vocal performance is a great sound. It starts with your voice,
then the microphone, then what? That’s where the Mic Mechanic steps in and gives you the perfect
amount of shine and polish.

Phantom Power
There is no switch to enable phantom power on the Mic Mechanic. Phantom power is available when
the product is powered up. Microphones that don’t require phantom power will operate properly.
First Setup and Use
1. Connect and power up unit. You can press the footswitch to light the LED and confirm unit is powered.
2. Turn down your PA’s master volume.
3. Connect your mic and PA as shown in the diagram, then plug in the VoiceTone AC adaptor. For live
performance, a USB connection to a computer is not required.
4. Sing into your mic while adjusting the MIC GAIN control so that the input level LED flashes green to
orange. Brief flashes of red on the LED on your loudest singing are ok.
5. Choose an effect with the effect knob
6. Set the Dry/Wet knob to the center notch.
7. Activate the effects with the footswitch (LED will light).
8. Sing while turning up your PA volume to a comfortable level.

Connecting

The Style Selector
“Styles” are preset effects offering a wide range of sounds you can load quickly. There are 8 styles to
choose from:
Reverb: These 3 styles simulate a physical space. Hall (larger space), Club (medium space), and Room
(smaller space).
Reverb + Echo: These 3 styles are combinations of the Hall, Club and Room reverbs, with an Echo. The
echo time can be controlled with the footswitch. See “Setting the Tap Delay Tempo” below.
Echo: This style is an Echo with no Reverb. See “Setting the Tap Delay Tempo” below.
Slap: A Slap echo, which is typically too fast to tap with your foot. It’s a common style in Country and
Pop music.
Setting the Tap Delay Tempo
Having echo repeats fall on song beats or beat subdivisions can add rhythmic interest, especially with
longer echo times. You can set a tempo in any “Echo” preset.
The following is a quick start for tempo setting:
1. Select a style with Echo in the name.
2. Hold the footswitch for a moment. The LED will flash at the last tempo set or a default.
3. Tap a few beats to set tempo. Tempo is measured by the time between the last two taps.
4. Hold the footswitch to exit Tempo Tap mode.
Now you can experiment with the different styles and other tempo settings.
• With the effect on, you can stay in Tap Tempo mode and update timing throughout the song
• Echo on/off status will remain the same when you enter Tap Tempo mode
Using Correction
Auto-chromatic pitch correction is intended to gently correct the pitch of your voice, without sounding
robot-like.
It can be used as an effect at the 100 setting. Setting the Correction to “OFF” bypasses all correction.
Setting Delay Feedback
This controls the number of repeats and thus the duration of the echo effect. All styles have preset
feedback settings but you can adjust it if you wish.
1. Press and hold the Tone button and turn the Dry/Wet knob to increase or reduce the feedback.
2. Release the Tone button when you like the way things sound.
This setting is saved and will be recalled the next time you select the preset.
The Tone Button
Engages adaptive EQ, compression, de-essing and gating. Typically, you’ll want to leave this on, but try
it both ways to see what you like better.
Using the Mic Control Feature
The Mic Mechanic pedal has a switch labelled MIC CONTROL that can be pushed in allowing remote
on/off control for that pedal from the optional TC-Helicon MP-75 mic. When Mic Control is not desired,
ensure the Mic Control switch is out.
Tips for Avoiding Feedback
• Ensure your monitor and/or PA speakers don’t aim directly at the front of your mic
• Sing close to the mic, even touching the grill with your lips
• Try a super-cardioid dynamic mic such as TC-Helicon’s MP-75 and MP-70
• Set your PA channel EQ and graphic EQ flatter or off
• Have your band play quieter on stage
FAQ
Why am I hearing distortion?
Likely the MIC GAIN knob is set too high. Ensure that the Input LED is green most of the time with only
brief and rare peaks of red.
Can I use the product on an auxilliary send/return?
Yes. Ensure that the MIC GAIN knob is set to minimum to accept the line level signal from your mixer.
Note that the noise floor may rise slightly in this setup.
Will I need a DI box to connect to a mixer?
No.
Why is the product turning the effect on and off by itself?
This can happen when you have the MIC CONTROL knob pushed in and the Mic input is connected to
a mixer send with “pseudo balanced” outputs. Unless you are using only the TC-Helicon MP-75 mic with
the Mic Control feature, the MIC CONTROL knob should be out.

El selector Style

Uso de la corrección
La corrección de tono cromática automática p1-ha sido diseñada para corregir suavemente el tono de su
voz, sin hacer que suene mecánica o robótica.
Puede usar esto como un efecto en el valor 10. El ajuste de este Correction a “OFF” anula o deja en
bypass la corrección.
Ajuste de la realimentación de retardo
Esto controla el número de repeticiones y por tanto la duración del efecto eco. Todos los estilos tienen
ajustes de realimentación prefijados, pero puede ajustarlos a otros valores si quiere.
1. Mantenga pulsado el botón Tone y gire el mando Dry/Wet para aumentar o reducir la realimentación.
2. Deje de pulsar el botón Tone cuando le guste cómo p1-ha quedado el sonido.
Este ajuste quedará memorizado y será recargado la próxima vez que elija ese preset.

dejar esto activo, pero pruebe a desactivarlo también para comprobar si le gusta más el sonido sin él.
Uso de la función Mic Control

Phantomspeisung
Bei den Produkten der VoiceTone Singles-Serie ist kein Schalter zum Aktivieren der Phantomspeisung erfor-
derlich. Die Phantomspeisung steht sofort zur Verfügung, wenn das Gerät angeschaltet wird. Mikrofone, für die
keine Phantomspeisung erforderlich ist, können problemlos verwendet werden.
Konfiguration und Inbetriebnahme
1. Stellen Sie die Verbindungen her und nehmen Sie das Gerät in Betrieb. Um zu überprüfen, ob das Gerät
mit Strom versorgt wird, drücken Sie den Fußtaster. Wenn dessen Leuchtdiode leuchtet, ist das Gerät in
Betrieb.
2. Senken Sie den Pegel an Ihrem Verstärker oder der PA ab.
3. Verbinden Sie das Gerät zunächst entsprechend der Abbildung mit Ihrem Mikrofon und Ihrer Verstärkeranla-
ge und stecken Sie dann das Netzteil in eine Steckdose. Die USB-Verbindung wird beim Live-Einsatz nicht
benötigt.
4. Singen Sie in Ihr Mikrofon und passen Sie mit dem Regler MIC GAIN die Eingangsempfindlichkeit so an,
dass die Eingangspegel-Leuchtdiode grün oder orange leuchtet. An lauten Stellen darf die Leuchtdiode auch
kurzfristig rot leuchten.
5. Wählen Sie mit dem Style-Wahlreger einen Effekt aus

Anschlüsse vornehmen
Mic-Buchse: Schließen Sie an diese Buchse mit Hilfe eines sym-
metrischen XLR-Kabels Ihr Mikrofon an. Die Phantomspeisung am
Mikrofoneingang ist permanent aktiv.
Out-Buchse: Verbinden Sie das Gerät über diese Buchse mit Ihrem

Der Style-Wahlregler
Ein „Style“ umfasst vorgegebene Einstellungen für den Effekt. Die verschiedenen Styles decken eine große
Klangpalette ab und können in einer Livesituation schnell geladen werden. Sie können zwischen acht verschie-
denen Styles wählen:
Reverb: Diese drei Styles simulieren reale Räume: „Hall“ (ein großer Raum), „Club“ (ein Raum mittlerer Größe)
und „Room“ (ein kleiner Raum).
Reverb + Echo: Bei diesen drei Styles werden die „Hall“-, „Club“- und „Room“-Reverbs mit einem Echo
kombiniert. Die Echozeit kann mit dem Fußtaster gesteuert werden. Siehe hierzu den Abschnitt „Vorgeben der
Delayzeiten mit der Tap-Funktion“.
Echo: Dieser Style erzeugt ein Echo ohne Reverb. Siehe hierzu den Abschnitt „Vorgeben der Delayzeiten mit
der Tap-Funktion“.
Slap: Dies ist ein Slap-Echo mit einer sehr kurzen Delayzeit, die nicht ohne weiteres mit einem Fußtaster vorge-
geben werden kann. Es wird vor allem in der Country- und Popmusik verwendet.
Vorgeben der Delayzeiten mit der Tap-Funktion
Wenn die Echowiederholungen auf Zählzeiten oder deren Teiler fallen, können rhythmisch interessante Effekte
entstehen. Dies gilt besonders für lange Delayzeiten. Für jedes „Echo“-Preset können Sie das Tempo vorgeben.
Nachfolgend eine kurze Einführung in die Tempo-Einstellung mit der Tap-Funktion.
1. Wählen Sie einen Style aus, in dessen Namen „Echo“ enthalten ist.
2. Halten Sie den Fußtaster einen Moment lang gedrückt. Die Leuchtdiode blinkt im zuletzt vom Anwender
eingestellten Tempo oder einem vorgegebenen Tempo.
3. Tippen Sie auf dem Fußtaster ein paar Zählzeiten im gewünschten Tempo. Das Tempo wird aus der Zeit-
spanne zwischen den beiden letzten Taps berechnet.
4. Um den Tempo-Tapping-Modus zu beenden, drücken und halten Sie den Fußtaster.
Jetzt können Sie mit den verschiedenen Styles und anderen Tempoeinstellungen experimentieren.
• So lange der Effekt aktiv ist, können Sie den Tempo-Tapping-Modus aktiviert lassen und das Tempo
jederzeit durch erneutes rhythmisches Antippen des Fußtasters aktualisieren.
• Der Status des Echo-Effekts (an/aus) ändert sich nicht, wenn Sie den Tempo-Tap-Modus aktivieren.
Tonhöhenkorrektur verwenden
Die autochromatische Tonhöhenkorrektur dient dazu, die Tonhöhe Ihres Gesangs auf subtile Weise zu korrigie-
ren – ohne dass das Ergebnis künstlich und roboterhaft klingt.
Wenn Sie den Regler auf den Maximalwert einstellen, können Sie das Modul als Effekt verwenden. Wenn Sie
Correction auf „OFF“ stellen, erfolgt keinerlei Tonhöhenkorrektur.
Einstellen des Delay-Feedbacks
Durch das Einstellen des Delay-Feedbacks legen Sie die Anzahl der Wiederholungen fest, die erzeugt werden
sollen – und damit die Gesamtlänge des Echoeffekts. Jeder Style ist mit einem vorprogrammierten Feedback-
Wert ausgestattet, den Sie aber bei Bedarf anpassen können.
1. Drücken und halten Sie den Tone-Taster und drehen Sie den Dry/Wet-Regler nach links oder rechts, um die
Anzahl der Wiederholungen zu vermindern oder erhöhen.
2. Lassen Sie die Tone-Taste wieder los, wenn der Klang Ihren Vorstellungen entspricht.
Die gewählte Einstellung wird gespeichert und verwendet, wenn Sie dieses Preset wieder aufrufen.
Die Tone-Taste
Drücken Sie diese Taste, um das Tone-Modul mit adaptivem EQ, Kompressor, De-Esser und Gate zu aktivieren.
Normalerweise sollte dieses Modul aktiv sein – aber Sie können es probeweise ausschalten, um den Unter-
schied zu hören.
Wie Sie die Funktion Mic Control verwenden
Das Mic Mechanical-Pedal ist mit einer MIC CONTROL-Taste ausgestattet. Wenn Sie diese Taste drücken,
können Sie das Pedal mit dem separat erhältlichen Mikrofon MP-75 von TC-Helicon an- und ausschalten. Wenn
Sie die Funktion Mic Control nicht verwenden wollen, achten Sie darauf, dass der MIC CONTROL-Schalter nicht
gedrückt ist.
Wie Sie Rückkopplungen vermeiden
• Achten Sie darauf, dass Ihr Monitor und/oder die Lautsprecher Ihrer PA nicht direkt auf die Vorderseite
Ihres Mikrofons abstrahlen.
• Singen Sie so nah wie möglich an Ihrem Mikrofon.
• Verwenden Sie ein dynamisches Mikrofon mit Supernierencharakteristik wie zum Beispiel ein MP-
75 oder MP-70 von TC-Helicon.
• Stellen Sie an Ihrem Mischpult den Equalizer des Mikrofon-Kanalzugs (oder den grafischen Equali-
zer Ihrer PA) auf eine flache Kennlinie ein.
• Wenn keine andere Maßnahme hilft, muss die Band leiser spielen bzw. ihre Bühnenmonitore leiser
stellen.
Häufige Fragen und Antworten
Warum kommt es zu Verzerrungen?
Wahrscheinlich ist der Regler MIC GAIN auf einen zu hohen Wert eingestellt. Stellen Sie die Eingangsempfind-
lichkeit so ein, dass die Input-Leuchtdiode meist grün und nur selten/kurz rot leuchtet.
Kann ich dieses Gerät auch in einem Effektweg (Aux Send/Return) betreiben?
Ja. Um das Linepegel-Signal von Ihrem Mischpult korrekt zu verarbeiten, sollten Sie den Regler MIC Gain auf
den kleinsten Wert (linker Anschlag) einstellen. Beachten Sie, dass bei dieser Konfiguration das Grundrauschen
etwas höher sein kann.
Benötige ich eine DI-Box, um dieses Gerät an einem Mischpult zu betreiben?
Nein.
Warum schaltet das Gerät den Effekt selbsttätig ein und aus?
Dies kann geschehen, wenn Sie den Taster MIC CONTROL aktiviert haben und der Mikrofoneingang mit dem
Effekt Send eines Mischpults verbunden ist, das mit „pseudosymmetrischen“ Ausgängen ausgestattet ist. Sie
sollten den Taster MIC CONTROL nur aktivieren, wenn Sie das Mikrofon MP-75 von TC-Helicon verwenden,
welches die Funktion Mic Control unterstützt.
