The AMAX-4817/4820 ESI le can be downloaded from

the Advantech website at http://www.advantech.com.

Every EtherCAT SubDevice information (ESI) le con-

tains the conguration data of an EtherCAT SubDevice

module. Various EtherCAT communication settings can

be dened from the ESI les of connected SubDevice

units as well as the network connection information. ESI

les are saved to the conguration tool to provide net-

work conguration data. Subsequently, the network

conguration data can be downloaded to the EtherCAT

MainDevice unit for conguring an EtherCAT network.

Industrial EtherCAT SubDevice Modules

Startup Manual

The AMAX-4817/4820 series comprises industrial EtherCAT

SubDevice modules equipped with the EtherCAT protocol.

The modules’ compact size and integrated DIN-rail mount

kit ensure easy installation in cabinets. The modules also

feature euro-type pluggable terminal blocks and LED in-

dicators that facilitate system setup and maintenance. All

modules are equipped with an isolation circuit that ensures

current protection for demanding industrial applications.

AMAX-4817/4820 modules use two hexadecimal rotary

switches to represent the SubDevice ID (range: 0 ~ 255).

For example, if a user arranges the rotary switches follow-

ing the sequence “4, F”, the SubDevice ID will be set as “4

x 16 + F x 1= 79”.

Switches

Only for AMAX-4817-B2. SW2~SW8 are used to hardware

congure the analog input as voltage measurement (0 ~ 10

V, ±10 V) or current measurement (0~20 mA, ±20 mA). The

default setting is voltage measurement.

Otherwise, please change the software conguration

0x218n:01 (n from 0 to 7 refer to ch.0 to ch.7), 0 for ±10 V /

±20 mA,1 for 0 ~ 10 V / 0 ~ 20 mA.

AMAX-4817/4820 modules feature two power input terminals,

an input power range of +10 to +30 V

, and power redundan-

cy support. For modules connected to two power input sourc-

es, if one source is inactive or interrupted, the other power

source can take over immediately. The AMAX-4817/4820

modules can operate with only a single power source.

1. Download the AMAX-4817/4820 user manual and

ESI le from the Advantech website at http://www.

advantech.com.

2. Import the ESI le to create an EtherCAT network

information (ENI) le using either:

(1) Advantech Common Motion Utility

(with a PCI-1203 EtherCAT MainDevice card)

(2) Other EtherCAT MainDevice software, such as

TwinCAT or Acontis

3. Use the MainDevice utility to test AMAX-4817/4820

modules.

sonable protection against harmful interference when the

equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This

equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency

instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio

communications. Operation of this equipment in residential

areas is likely to cause interference; in such cases, users

are required to correct the interference at their own expense.

This product has passed the CE test for environmen-

tal specications when shielded cables are used for

external wiring. We recommend the use of shield-

ed cables. Advantech does provide shielded cables.
