Installation
This auto drain valve can be used on all 5GE-SMP series steam generators.
1. Connecting the Auto Drain to the drainage system
a) When installing the Auto Drain valve, make sure the directional arrow on the valve points away from the steam unit.
b) Using ½” pipe and a union (not supplied), connect the drain outlet to a drainage system. The pipe must be pitched down and away from
the steam generator; the water will drain by gravity.
NOTE: Do NOT connect the auto drain pipe to the steam line, Safety Relief Valve line, or to the generator pan.
IMPORTANT: When connecting the drain outlet to the drainage system, be sure to follow National and Local Plumbing codes.
 c)PipetheAutoDrainoutlettoemptyintoaoordrain.Theoutletshouldbeconnectedtoanindirectwasteandmusthaveaminimumair
 gapoftwicethediameteroftheAutoDrainpipe.TheairgapismeasuredfromthetoprimoftheoordraintotheendoftheAutoDrain
 pipe.Theoordrainmustbeproperlyventedandtrapped.
NOTE: Valve MUST be in CLOSED position before use. Move lever up to release into the closed position (See Figure 1).
2. Operation of the Auto Drain
The drain valve is a normally closed valve which opens each time the steam generator drains. The valve is held closed throughout the steambath
cycle and remains closed after the steambath until the steam generator cools for approximately 8 hours. During the drain cycle the drain valve
willremainopenfor3minutestotal.After2½minutesthewatersolenoidvalvewillopenandushthetank.
3. Wiring
Make sure the power is disconnected to the generator. Have an electrician connect the two black leads from the valve to the terminal block
located on the circuit board of the steam generator. Check the connection at the terminal block to make sure the wires are not shorted before
turning the power back on.

Any upward pitch of the drain would collect sediment, prevent proper draining
and cause damage the steam generator.
