About the N5EX

The following functions of the N5EX are additions or changes

to the specifications of the N5. Please read this material in

conjunction with the “N1/N5 Owner’s manual.”

1. Additions in “6. About MIDI”

1) The following has been added to “Syn-

chronizing the arpeggiator ” (p.76):

When the N5EX’s arpeggio function is on, the following

MIDI messages can be used to control the arpeggiator

from a connected computer/sequencer.

F8 (MIDI Clock): This is received when Global Clock

Source = MIDI or PCIF. The arpeg-

gio speed setting of the itselfN5EX

will be ignored.

FA (MIDI Start): When the Latch/Key Sync setting of

the arpeggiator is OFF or LATCH,

receiving this MIDI message will

cause the arpeggio pattern to return

to its beginning.

FC (MIDI Stop): When this MIDI message is re-

ceived, the arpeggio will stop. The

arpeggio function itself will not be

turned off—rather, this sets a status

in which no key has yet been

pressed.

* When Global Clock Source = INT, these messages are not re-

ceived.

* When Global Clock Source = MIDI, these messages can be re-

ceived from MIDI and will function as described.

* When Global Clock Source = PCIF, these messages can be re-

ceived from PCIF and will function as described.

2) Add the following item to the end of

p.77.

Changing the performance

If you wish to select a different performance (01–32)N5EX

from your computer/sequencer, use Bank Select [Bn, 00,

5F] (control change #00) and Program Change [Cn, pp]

(pp: 00–1F, performances 01–32). However, the Bank Se-

lect LSB will be ignored. Also, these messages are received

only on the MIDI channel specified by the <Exclusive

Channel> setting. These messages are received only in

Performance Play mode and in Multi mode.

Example of transmission (when EXCL ch. = 01)

B0, 00, 5F : Bank MSB = 5F (hex) = 95

C0, 01 : change to performance 02
