INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on choosing the Golden Age Project FC1 mkIII micro-
phone!
The FC1 mkIII is a high quality large capsule condenser microphone, in-
spired by classical microphone models.
The FC1 mkIII is a very versatile microphone with a wide frequency re-
sponse and a large dynamic range. It will perform great in the studio or in
live sound and broadcast applications.
It has a sound character similar to vintage microphones and it is well
suited to be used with most instruments and voices.
Use it on vocals and choirs; acoustic and electric guitars and other fretted
instruments; as drum overheads or room microphones; and in any other
application where you would use a large-capsule condenser microphone.
The FC1 mkIII is, in spite of its low cost, suitable for critical recording
applications.
USING THE FC1 MKIII
The FC1 mkIII can be used with any standard mixer or preamp. Use either
a XLR to XLR or XLR to 1/4” plug standard balanced micro phone cable.
Please note that the FC1 mkIII requires +48 V phan tom power. For opti-
mum performance, let the FC1 mkIII warm up for 5-10 minutes before use.
Be aware of the proximity effect (an increase in bass response) when the
microphone is close to the sound source. This can be a good or a bad
thing. You can adjust the bass response by changing the distance from the
microphone to the sound source for an optimum result in different situa-
tions. You can also use the high pass filter by engaging the internal switch.
As always, experiment! This is the best way to get the sound you want.
Microphone place ment is an art and you will learn a lot by trying different
methods.
HIGH-PASS FILTER
The FC1 mkIII contains an internal switch for a 100 Hz high-pass filter. To
engage the switch, unscrew the bottom cup from the microphone and
slide off the main body shell. Engage the blue switch in the center of
the circuit board to activate the high-pass filter. Reassemble the mic and
youre good to go!
PRECAUTIONS
Be careful not to drop the FC1 mkIII or subject it to shock since this
can destroy the sensitive capsule.
Always pack the FC1 mkIII care fully when transporting it.
The heart of the FC1 mkIII is its capsule. It must be protected from
dirt and moisture.
Always use a pop filter for close- up vocals to protect the capsule
from mouth spray.
Always store the FC1 mkIII in its vinyl pouch when it is not in use.
Protect the FC1 mkIII from strong wind blasts. Never put it inside
or close to the front of a kick drum. Use a pop-filter and place it at
least 0.5 m away.
Always connect the FC1 mkIII to the preamp or mixing console BE-
FORE phantom power is applied and unplug the microphone cable
AFTER you have turned off the phantom power and waited 10 sec-
onds or more. This is to avoid possible damage to the electronic
circuits in the FC1 mkIII.
Avoid exposing the FC1 mkIII to direct sunlight or extremes in humid-
ity for extended periods of time.
Never try to service the FC1 mkIII yourself since this will void the
warranty. Should your FC1 mkIII ever need service, please contact
your dealer.
WARRANTY
Please check the FC1 mkIII carefully immediately when you receive it and
make sure that there are no problems with the microphone. The warranty
period is one year and apply to defects in materials and workmanship. It
does not cover misuse of the microphone.
If you ever experience any problem, contact your dealer.
