Overview
The AXS-AR1 AXS/SxS Memory Card Reader supports Thunderbolt TM 2 for high-
speed transfer of data stored on AXS memory cards. It employs a combo-slot
which allows it to write to SxS memory cards as well as read SxS memory cards.
It also supports Thunderbolt TM 2 daisy chain connections for connecting multiple
units to achieve high-speed data transfer from multiple cards.
Precautions on use
The access lamp lights blue when an AXS/SxS memory card is being accessed.
Observe the following while the access lamp is lit blue. Not doing so may
damage the data stored on the computer or the memory card. Do not:
disconnect the connection cable or AC adaptor cable
turn off the computer
remove the memory card
When disconnecting the connection cable, always grasp it by its connector.
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Never use benzene, alcohol, thinner, or
other solvents. Doing so may result in deformation or malfunction of the unit.
Sony accepts absolutely no responsibility for problems in data recorded or
played if AXS/SxS memory cards are used incorrectly.
To prevent accidentally recording, deleting or editing of data recorded on SxS
memory cards, set the write protect switch of the memory card to “WP.”
Do not engage the write-protect switch with the AXS/SxS memory card
inserted into the unit.
If this unit is connected to the computer in the following situations, the unit
may not operate correctly. Disconnect the unit from the computer before
doing these operations.
When you start or restart the computer.
When the computer enters sleep or hibernation, or restored from either.
About condensation
If the unit is suddenly taken from a cold to a warm location, or if ambient
temperature suddenly rises, moisture may form on the outer surface of the unit
and/or inside of the unit. This is known as condensation. If condensation occurs,
turn off the unit and wait until the condensation clears before operating the unit.
Operating the unit while condensation is present may damage the unit.
About lifespan of components
The fan is a consumable part that will need periodic replacement.
When operating at room temperature, a normal replacement cycle will be
about 5 years.
However, this replacement cycle represents only a general guideline and does
not imply that the life expectancy of this part is guaranteed. For details on
parts replacement, contact your dealer.
The life expectancy of the electrolytic capacitor is about 5 years under normal
operating temperatures and normal usage.
The life expectancy changes depending on the usage environment.
Notes on the AC adaptor
Connect the AC adaptor to any nearby wall outlet. If trouble occurs while
using the unit, disconnect the power plug from the wall outlet immediately.
Do not place the AC adaptor in narrow spaces during use (e.g., between a wall
and piece of furniture).

Troubleshooting
Symptom Solution
The removable
disk icon is not
displayed.
Check that the unit is connected correctly.
Check that there are not six or more devices, in
addition to the unit, connected in daisy chain to the
computer.
In a daisy chain connection, check that the devices
connected between the unit and the computer have
not failed. If a device has failed, remove that device.
The AXS/SxS
memory card
cannot be accessed
in the Finder.
Check that the memory card is inserted correctly, and
that an incompatible card is not inserted.
The access lamp
flashes when an
AXS/SxS memory
card is inserted.
Check that there is no dust or dirt adhering to the AXS/
SxS memory card or connector. Remove any foreign
matter and insert the memory card again.
The unit does not
operate correctly.
The unit may be affected by static electricity. Disconnect
the power cord and connection cable, and then
reconnect them.
Cannot record or
delete data on SxS
memory cards.
Do not remove an SxS memory card before moving
the disk icon to the Trash. If the memory card has
already been removed, insert it and try the operation
again.
Check that the write protect switch of the SxS memory
card is not set to “WP.”
