Before you start using the EM400, rst read this user manual thoroughly.
The manual highlights the most important areas concerning the safety of
work. Follow the instructions to avoid any electric shock or damage to the
appliance. The clamp multimeter was designed in compliance with the norm
IEC-61010 about electric measurement appliances of category (CAT II 600V),
safety class II and for pollution level 2.

WARNING
Follow especially these instructions:
Before starting to use the multimeter, check if the appliance is not
damaged. If you discover any signicant damage, do not perform any
measurements! Check, if the multimeter surface is scratched and if the
side joints are loose.
Check the insulation on the measurement probes and clamps. If the
insulation is damaged, there is a risk of an electric shock. Do not use
damaged measurement probes and clamps!
Do not measure voltage above 600 V, or current higher than 600 A!
Do not measure the current, if the idle voltage is higher than 250 V in an
open circuit.
The terminal “COM“ must always be connected to the related measure-
ment ground.
If you get anomalous readings, do not use the multimeter. If you are not
sure, what is the cause of the malfunction, contact the service centre.
• Do not measure higher voltage and currents, than those marked on the
front panel of the multimeter and the clamps. There is a risk of an electric
shock and damage to the multimeter!
• Before using, check if the multimeter operates correctly. Test a circuit,
where you already know the proper electric values.
Before connecting the multimeter to a circuit, where you want to measure
the electric current, turn o the power supply of the given circuit.
Do not use or store the multimeter in an environment with high tempera-
tures, dust and moisture. We do not recommend using the appliance in
environments, where a strong magnetic eld may occur or where there
is a risk of a re or an explosion.
When replacing the battery or another part of the multimeter, use the
spare parts of the same type and specication. Before replacement, turn
the multimeter o and disconnect from power source!
Do not alter or modify the internal circuitry of the multimeter!
• Proceed with caution, when measuring voltage above 30 V AC rms, 42 V
peak or 60 V DC. There is a risk of an electric shock!
When manipulating with the measurement points, make sure you hold
them only behind the nger protection.
To avoid electric shock, do not touch any naked wire with your bare hands
or skin.
Before opening the multimeter cover, disconnect the measurement point
from the tested circuit.
Do not perform any measurement, if the cover of the multimeter is
removed or loose.
• As soon as the displays shows the depleted battery icon “ , the
battery needs to be replaced.
Otherwise the measurement may be imprecise.
This may lead to skewed measurement results and subsequent electric shock!
CATII – measurement category II is for measurement on circuits connected
directly to low voltage appliances. That is home appliances, mobile tools and
suchlike. Do not use the multimeter to measure ranges in category III and IV!
WARNING
Use the EM400 multimeter only as specied below. Otherwise the appliance
and your health may be damaged. Follow these instructions:
Before measuring the resistance, diodes or current, disconnect the circuits
from their power source and discharge the high-voltage condensers.
Before measurement you need to check if the rotary switch is in proper
position. Do not change the measurement range (turning the rotary

switch of measurement programme) during the very measurement! The
appliance may get damaged.
• When measuring the current, turn othe circuit’s power supply before
connection the multimeter to it.
Appliance description
The clamp multimeter EM400 is from a series of compact appliances with3¾
numeric display, designed to measure direct current and alternating voltage,
direct current, resistance, diodes testing, acoustic tests of conductivity and
circuits. The multimeter has an automatic range for value measurement.
It indicated the trespass of the measured range. It has an automatic switch
o function.
The multimeter provides protection against overload and informs about
low battery.
Ideal use of the EM400 multimeter is in workshops, laboratories and
households.

Frontal view of the multimeter
1. Lever - used to open and close the
clamps.
2. Rotary switch - used to select the
required function and to turn the meas-
urement appliance on and o. When not
using the measurement appliance, set
this rotary switch to the OFF position.
3. Display 3¾ numeric LCD display with
maximum measurable value 3999.
4. Clamp “COM“ - the connecting clamp
for the black (negative) test conductor.
5. Clamp - connecting clamp
for the red (positive) test conductor.
6. Button
1. During the function of measuring the
resistance, current or voltage the but-
ton is used to toggle the automated
range mode and manual range mode
and to select the desired manual range.
2. During the function of diode test and
permeability test, you can push this
button to toggle the diode test and permeability test function.
7. The HOLD button (holding the data on the display) - used to enter the
measured data hold mode or to quit this mode.
8. The button - during the function of measurement of the direct
current you can use this button to reset before starting the measurement.
During the other measurement functions, this button can be used to get
into a relative mode or to terminate the mode.
9. Grip protection barrier - it protects the ngers not to touch the tested
wire. Do not hold the appliance before this grip protection.
10. Clamps (current sensor) - used to enclose the conductor during the
current measurement.
Info for the built in buzzer:
After pushing any button, the buzzer will sound, if this button function
is active.
Before the measurement appliance turns o automatically, it sounds several
short beeps, and after 1 more minute it gives one long beep and turns o
automatically.
Measurement precision
Precision is specied for the period of one year after a calibration and at the
temperatures 23°C ± 5°C with relative air humidity up to 75 %.
