A key element in the performance of any communication
systems is the antenna. Contact your dealer for
information regarding antennas and how to install them.
FUSE REPLACEMENT
Fuses are installed in the supplied DC power cable. If a
fuse blows, track down the source of the problem, repair it,
and then replace the damaged fuse with a new rated one.

PRECAUTIONS
R WARNING! NEVER connect the transceiver to an AC

shock.
R WARNING! NEVER operate the transceiver during a
lightning storm. It may result in an electric shock, cause

power source and antenna before a storm.
R WARNING! NEVER connect the transceiver to a power
source of more than 16 V DC such as a 24 V battery. This
could damage the transceiver.
R WARNING! NEVER cut the DC power cable between
the DC plug and fuse holder. If an incorrect connection is
made after cutting, the transceiver might be damaged.
R WARNING! NEVER place the transceiver where normal
operation of the vehicle may be hindered or where it could
cause bodily injury.
CAUTION: DO NOT expose the transceiver to rain, snow
or any liquids.

areas with temperatures below –25°C or above +55°C, or

MOUNTING THE TRANSCEIVER
The universal mounting bracket supplied with your
transceiver allows under or overhead mounting.
Mount the transceiver securely with the 4 supplied
screws to a thick surface that can support more than 1.5
kg (3.3 lb).

MICROPHONE HANGER
Connect the supplied microphone hanger to the
vehicle’s ground for microphone ON/OFF hook
functions. (See ‘PANEL DESCRIPTION’ for details.)
5 IGNITION LEAD
Connects to an ignition line.
CAUTION: DO NOT
put a pressure on
this lead. Binding to the DC power cable is
recommended.

DC POWER RECEPTACLE.
Connects to a 12 V DC battery. Pay attention to
polarities.
R WARNING! NEVER connect to a 24 V battery. This
will damage the transceiver.
D About the LED indicator
• Lights red while transmitting.
Lights green while receiving a signal, or when the
squelch is open.
D About the Microphone connector
Connect the supplied or optional microphone.
NEVER connect non-specied microphones. The pin
assignments may be di󰀨erent and may damage the
transceiver.

D MICROPHONE
The supplied or optional microphone has a PTT switch
and a hanger.
The following functions are available when you put the
microphone ON hook, or take it OFF hook (depending on
the presetting):
- Automatic scan starts when you put it ON hook.
- Scan is paused or cancelled when you take it OFF
hook.
- Automatically selects the Priority A channel when you
take it OFF hook.
- Sets to the ‘Inaudible’ (mute) mode when you put it ON
hook.

Sets to the ‘Audible’ (unmute) mode when you take it
OFF hook

signal from a satellite. In this case, the compander
icon does not show the Compander function’s

Displayed when the Voice Scrambler function is
activated.
y BELL ICON
Displayed or blinks when a matching signal is
received, according to the presetting.
u CALL CODE MEMORY ICON
Displayed when the call code memory is selected.
i SCROLL ICON
Displayed when an SDM (Short Data Message),
including more than 12 characters, is selected in the
received message log screen by using [BIIS Button] or
[dPMR Button].

Displayed when an SDM or Status message is received.

Displays an operating channel number, channel
name, User Set mode contents, DTMF code, etc.
Depending on the presetting, characters are displayed
in 1 line or 2 lines on the LCD.
In the instruction manual, the LCD illustration is
described as having characters displayed in 2 lines.

Displayed above the key assigned as [Scan], [Scan Add/
Del(Tag)], [Lock], [Talk Around], [Surveillance] and [BIIS

z Hold down [ ] to turn ON the power.
NOTE: If the transceiver is programmed for a start up
password, input the digit codes as directed by your
dealer. See the operating guide for details.
D Receiving and Transmitting
Receiving:
1. Select a channel.
z Push [CH Up] or [CH Down].
z Push one of the direct channel select keys,
[MR-CH 1] to [MR-CH 4].
2. When receiving a call, rotate [VOL] to adjust the audio
output level to a comfortable listening level.
Transmitting:
Wait until the channel is clear to avoid interference.
1. Take the microphone off the hook.
While scanning, the scan stops.
2. Wait for the channel to become clear.
The channel is busy when the LED indicator lights green.
3. While holding down [PTT], speak at a normal voice
level.
4. Release [PTT] to receive.
IMPORTANT:
To maximize the readability of your signal:
1. After pushing [PTT], pause briefly before you start
speaking.
2. Hold the microphone 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches)
from your mouth, then speak at a normal voice
level.
