The M/S Staon is a new mastering and main bus tool with four separate funcons divided into two sec-
ons including an advanced cue funcon.
Secon 1 is a parallel insert with M/S funcon allowing the user to use separate blend controls for the mid
and side signals. For maximum precision the blend control(s) has 16 posions from dry to wet.
Secon 2 consists of three parts, an ellipcal EQ with 16 frequencies, a width control from 0-200% and an
advanced cue funcon.
The two secons are normally linked internally but can be used separately with their own balanced inputs
and outputs by removing four jumpers inside the unit (see unlink secon 1 and 2). This way you can use
them at dierent locaons in your setup.
Parallel insert with M/S funcon:
With the insert secon you can insert an external
processor like an EQ, compressor, distoron unit
etc, and then dial in a mix between the processed
signal (wet) and the unprocessed signal (dry).
For maximum precision the blend control has 16
steps from dry to wet.
If you acvate the M/S funcon your signal will
be coded into mid ( L+R ) and side ( L-R ). The mid
signal normally contains all the center info such
as bass, kick drum, lead vocal etc and the side
signal contains all the panned parts of the signal.
In M/S you can process the mid signal and side
signal separately with dierent types of proces-
sors and the blend controls is placed infront of
the M/S encoder before it’ decoded back to le
and right signals.
With the blend split funcon you get separate
blend controls for the mid and side signal.
Ellipcal Equalizer:
With the ellipcal EQ all frequencies below a
selected frequency will be made to mono. This
funcon can make your low end more focused.
It’s an old technique used when mastering for
vinyl.
Too much low end in the side channel (vercal)
can make the needle bounce slightly and cause
distoron.
By using a 12dB high pass lter in the side chan-
nel you set the frequency under which the signal
will be processed as mono. As a HPF introduces
phase shi to the signal, a phase correcon
is added to the mid channel keeping channel
separaon as good as possible. The EEQ has 16
frequencies from 36Hz to 302Hz.
With the EEQ cue funcon you can monitor the
signals that are mixed between the channels.

Stereo width control:
By adjusng the amount of side informaon in
the stereo mix, the width can be adjusted in-
crementally from mono to extra wide. With this
control you can ne adjust the stereo image aer
you have used the M/S insert and EEQ.
Cue funcon:
When powered on the Stereo cue is auto selec-
ted as this is the normal operaon stage.
With the cue funcon you can monitor the Le,
Right, Mid or Side signal separately by pressing
the dedicated buon.
When you run the parallel insert in M/S and
Blend Split is acvated ”Insert cue” is a dedicated
funcon to monitor the Mid or Side blend sepa-
rately. The signal is then sent to the cue secon
without passing the EEQ, width circuit or other
gear if the M/S Staon is used unlinked.
With Insert cue acvated the L or R cue buon
will act as Mid or Side cue buons. By pressing
the L cue buon you will monitor the Mid blend
and by pressing the R cue buon you will monitor
the Side blend.
The ”Insert cue” funcon can be used even if
you run the two secons separately at dierent
locaons in your chain.
You can NOT use the ”Insert cue” funcon to
monitor the insert blend in stereo. This funcon
is dedicated to monitor the Mid or Side signals in
M/S mode with split blends only!
If you select the EEQ buon on the cue secon
you can monitor the low frequencies fed from
le to right or right to le by pressing L or R cue
switch. Perfect for ne tuning of the EEQ seng.
