Safety
Warning!
• Make sure that thesocket that theproduct is plugged into is
easily accessible so that you can quickly disconnect it and
theproduct from themains when needed.
• Do not connect products of this type to each other.
• Do not cover theproduct.
• Thepower inverter can only be connected to a12 V cigarette
lighter socket with a(+) positive centre.
• Thepower inverter must be protected from direct sunlight,
rain and moisture.
• Never open theinverter yourself, repairs should be carried
out by qualified personal using original spare parts, otherwise
theproduct could become dangerous to use.
• Always disconnect thecigarette lighter plug before servicing
or carrying out any adjustments to connected load appliances.
• Be very careful when handling lead-acid batteries, avoid
sparking at theterminals.
• Keep theinverter out of children’s reach; remember that thevoltage
from it is as dangerous as that from aregular wall socket.
• If themains lead or other cables on theinverter are damaged
they have to be replaced. Use only original replacement parts
from thesupplier.
• This product can be used in vehicles but should never be
mounted in theengine compartment.
• If you connect anauxiliary socket to the12 V battery,
theconnection cables between thebattery and thesocket
must be kept short, max 2 metres.
• Never use longer leads than needed between theinverter and
theload appliance, thelonger thelead thehigher thevoltage
drop.
• Check thepolarity from thecigarette lighter socket before
connecting theinverter. Thepower socket must have (+)
centre-positive polarity.
• Reversed connection can damage theinverter, and is not
covered by theguarantee.
• Do not have any load devices connected to theinverter when
you are connecting or removing theplug from thecigarette
lighter socket.
• Make sure thelead and plug are undamaged before using
theinverter.
• Theinverter must not be covered. Make sure theventilation
holes are kept open and unblocked.
• Never use theinverter as apower supply for medical
equipment or other sensitive and vital equipment. Read
thedevice’s instruction manual for power supply requirements
in regards to sine waves, voltage variations, earthing, etc.
Consult with atradesman if you are uncertain.
• For indoor use only.
• This product is not intended for powering products with high
energy consumption or products which give off heat such as
hair dryers, microwave ovens, toasters, etc.
• Keep aneye on thetemperature of thebattery charger that
is connected to theinverter. If it becomes hot after about 10
minutes thecharger should then only be connected to your
normal residential power grid.
• Never connect theinverter to a230 V power grid or other
inverter.
• Never use theinverter near flammable liquids or gas.
Sparks may be produced when connecting or disconnecting
theinverter.
• Theinverter may not be immersed in liquids or exposed to
rain or spray.
Product description
• 12 V DC to 230 V AC power inverter.
Connects to your car’s 12 V cigarette lighter socket.
• Designed to be placed in your car’s cup holder.
• Allows 230 V devices (TVs, digital receivers, stereos, etc.)
to be used in your car, boat, caravan, etc. Can also be
connected to battery chargers for laptops, digital cameras,
drill/drivers, etc.
• USB outlet for charging digital cameras, MP3 players, etc.
(5 V, max. 500 mA).
• Built-in overload protecton and low-voltage protection.
• Rated for 100 W of continuous power.
Use
1. Connection:
A. Plug theinverter into thecar’s cigarette lighter outlet (12 V).
B. Push theon/off switch to switch theinverter on.
C. Theindicator light will be blue when theinverter is switched
on and correctly connected.
D. Finally: Connect theload device’s plug to theoutlet
on theinverter.
2. Switching off:
A. Push theon/off switch to switch theinverter off.
B. Theindicator lamp will go off.
C. Disconnect theinverter from thecar’s cigarette lighter outlet.
D. Finally: Disconnect theload device from theinverter’s outlet.
3. Place theinverter in your car’s cup holder or other
appropriate location, well protected from rain and moisture
and with good air circulation so theinverter does not
overheat. Also, do not place theinverter in direct sunlight or
near heat sources.
4. Press thepower switch to start theinverter.
5. Theindicator light will be blue when theinverter is switched
on and correctly connected. This shows that theinverter is
functioning correctly and both the230 V AC socket and USB
port are ready for use.
N.B. If theindicator light is red then aproblem has occured.
Refer to Theinverter’s protective features.
6. Both theUSB port and 230 VAC socket can be used at
thesame time.
7. Theinverter can manage 100 W of continuous power. Make
sure that theload devices have alower power consumption
than 100 W.
All electrical products have arating for power consumption
listed in Aor W.
Example: If power consumption is given in Ayou would
calculate W as follows: Arating of 2.2 A (230 V AC) =
power in W: 2.2×230 = 506 W.
8. Press thepower switch to switch off theinverter.
N.B. Pull theplug out when theinverter is not in use.
N.B. Make sure that thevehicle’s battery is fully charged when
using theinverter without theengine turned on. Make sure
that you do not drain thebattery so much as to cause starting
problems.
N.B. TheUSB port on theinverter does not support
data transfer. It is only anoutlet providing 5 V/500 mA DC for
charging/powering USB devices.
Warning! Do not connect any sensitive devices which need
sine wave AC voltage (theinverter produces amodified square
waveform). Check theproduct’s instruction manual or consult
atradesman if you are at all uncertain.
Theinverter’s protective features
• Low voltage is not damaging Low voltage protection:
to theinverter but can damage theconnected load device.
Theinverter shuts off when battery voltage goes below
10.5 (+/-0.3) V DC.
• Overvoltage/Surge protection: Theinverter shuts off
when battery voltage exceeds 16 (+/-0.3) V DC.
• Short-circuit protection: Theinverter shuts off
automatically whenever ashort-circuit is detected.
• Overload protection: Theinverter shuts off automatically
when overloaded (power output over 100 W).
• Overheating protection: Theinverter shuts off
automatically when thetemperature becomes too high. Turn
off theconnected load device and let theinverter cool for
about 15 minutes.
• Reset theprotective features by: Shutting off theinverter
and starting it again.
Note!
• Disconnect theinverter from thebattery before starting
thevehicle or before recharging thebattery.
• Disconnect theinverter when it is not in use.
• Discharged batteries are sensitive to frost, recharge batteries
before storing them.
Care and maintenance
Cleaning: Unplug theinverter from thepower outlet and wipe
it with asoft cloth and maybe even alittle mild detergent. Never
use abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.
Troubleshooting
• If theinverter is switched on but does not have output voltage
from theVAC or USB outlets then in all probability
theinverter’s protective functions have tripped.
Theindicator light will be red if aproblem has occurred.
Reset theprotective features when you have addressed
theproblem. Shut off theinverter and start it again.
• Make sure that your car’s cigarette lighter socket outputs
12 V (certain cars must have theignition switch in theon
position in order to receive power from thesocket).
• Check thefuse in theinverter’s plug:
1. Unscrew theridged part of theplug to access thefuse while
keeping track of thesmall components (centre pin, spring
and plastic washer).
N.B. All thesmall components must be replaced in exactly
thesame position otherwise theinverter will
not function.
2. Replace thefuse only with one of thesame rating
(12 A/250 V).
