2 Equipment Needed
➢ Category 5e or better cables for RJ-45
ports
3 Attachments
➢ DIN-rail installations: Attach the bracket
on the unit using the included screws and
then mount on a DIN-rail.
➢ Wall installations: Attach the brackets on
the unit using the included screws and
then mount on a wall.
➢ Choose a dry area with ambient
temperature between -40 and 75ºC (-40
and 167ºF).
➢ Keep away from heat sources, sunlight,
warm air exhausts, hot-air vents, and
heaters.
➢ Make sure there is adequate airflow
4 Connect to the Ports
The PD1042/PD1044 has the following ports:
➢ 2 or 4 10/100/1000M RJ45 ports labeled
IN
➢ 2 or 4 10/100/1000M RJ45 ports labeled
OUT
➢ The device works in both directions (IN or
OUT). The device will protect equipment
on the opposite side of where the surge
occurs.
➢ Connect one end to the IN or OUT ports
and connect the other end to the other
port types. Make sure the same port
number is used for IN and OUT.
➢ If equipment on both sides of the line
need to be protected, it is necessary to
have a surge protector device installed at
each end.
➢ When 2 surge protector devices are used,
it does not matter which port (IN/OUT) is
used to connect from one device to the
other.
5 Surge Protection
➢ NOTE: The PD1042/PD1044 MUST be
grounded for the product to efficiently
work against surges. The grounding screw
is located on top of the unit.
➢ NOTE: If shielded ethernet cables are
used, make sure the drain wires are
grounded at each end.
➢ NOTE: The PD1042/PD1044 provides
protection against surges that come in
through the ethernet cable. It will NOT
protect against surges that come in
outside of the line. For equipment such
as outdoor WiFi Aps, lightning arresters
are recommended for such surges.
➢ This device is designed to handle PoE
power passthrough of up to 90 watts
(802.3bt)
➢ Device can handle up to 10KA surge
6 Application Distance
Limitation
➢ The distance limitation of the total
installation path is 100 meters (328 ft).
This would be from network equipment at
one end to the network equipment at the
other end.
➢ Install the surge device as close as
possible to the network equipment that
will be protected.
