Skiing is inherently dangerous. Understand and

accept the risks involved before participating.

You are responsible for your own actions and

decisions. Before using this product, read and

understand all instructions and warnings that

accompany it, and familiarize yourself with its

proper use, capabilities and limitations. We

recommend that you get proper training in its use.

Failure to read or follow any of these warnings

can result in severe injury, paralysis or death!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

BASKETS

To attach a basket: Push the basket and turn

clockwise until secured against the upper stop,

spinning freely.

To remove a basket: Pull the basket and twist

counterclockwise.

WHIPPET SELF-ARREST POLE

• The Whippet is not an ice axe, nor is it a substitute for

one.

• Do not hold or swing Whippet like an ice axe. Always

hold on to the grip.

• Practice self-arresting so you will understand its

capabilities.

• For self-arrest, hold one hand over the Whippet’s pick,

with the shaft diagonal across the torso, one hand

holding on near the FlickLock Pro mechanism.

• Avoid self-evisceration when climbing or skiing

CAUTION: The strap on the Whippet DOES NOT

release, remove the wrist strap in avalanche terrain.

SWITCH RELEASE™ STRAPS

For safety, some Black Diamond Ski Poles are designed

with an automatic strap releasing mechanism. This

release mechanism activates approximately +/- 10°

angle from vertical, upward and can be re-engaged

in the field. The strap release mechanism can also be

locked in place, preventing release.

COMPACTOR TOURING POLES

Black Diamond Equipment’s Compactor touring poles

use our exclusive Rapid Deployment System that

features a single push button release to collapse and

deploy the pole. The push button is located just below

the numbered FlickLock Pro adjustment section

Collapsing Compactor Poles:

1. Press the button and slide the grip toward the pole tip

2. Pull the shafts apart at each joint, located at the seam

between each shaft section

3. Fold the poles into a compact “Z” shape

4. Open the FlickLock Pro lever arm and fully collapse

the pole to minimize its folded length.

5. Snap the lower shaft’s basket clip onto the upper and

middle shaft for secure storage

Deploying

1. Ensure the basket is unclipped from all shafts.

2. Grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them

away from each other. The pole will snap into place

and lock.

3. Check that the push button on has snapped

completely out and the pole is locked without gaps at

the joints

Adjusting

Over time, the inner cord that connects the shaft

sections may stretch. This play can be removed by

increasing the inner cord tension.

1. Press the push-button release, and then pull ONLY

the lowest joint apart.

2. The cord tensioner is located between the middle and

lower shafts

3. Hold both ends of the tensioner and turn it clockwise

to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen

NEVER loosen the tensioner completely unless

replacing a lower section. If replacing a lower section,

loosen the tensioner completely until it comes free

from the upper section. Keep hold of the upper part of

the tensioner so it doesn’t slide up inside the middle

pole section. Insert the threaded end of the new lower

pole section’s tensioner and twist until no threads are

showing. Then follow the above instructions to adjust

the tension.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Never put oil or silicone on the pole shafts—this could

cause the joints to slip during use. Always remove

the lower shafts after skiing and allow them to dry

completely before storage.

INSPECTION AND RETIREMENT

Before and after each use, FlickLock mechanisms

open and close smoothly. Make sure that there are no

cracks in the housing or cam lever and that nothing

is deformed or broken. Replacement parts may be

obtained from your Black Diamond dealer or directly

from us. If you own probe models, always make sure

that you are using one male lower shaft and one

female lower shaft. Before and after each use, check

to see that the adjustment mechanisms open and close

smoothly and are tensioned properly.

• Make sure nothing is deformed or broken.

• Before storage, release the tension cord, collapse the

pole, and dry.

• Apply a drop of oil on the lever axle where the

lever meets the clamp band if the FlickLock Pro

mechanisms become hard to open or close.

Replacement parts may be obtained from your local

Black Diamond Equipment dealer or directly from Black

Diamond Equipment.

For one year following purchase unless otherwise

indicated by law, we will warrant to the original retail

buyer only that our products are free from defects in

material and workmanship as originally sold. If you

receive a defective product, return it to us and we will

replace it subject to the following conditions: We do not

warrant products which show normal wear and tear or

that have been used or maintained improperly, modified

or altered, or damaged in any manner.

Pour fixer une rondelle : Poussez vigoureusement la

rondelle en tournant dans le sens des aiguilles d’une

montre jusqu’à ce qu’elle se cale solidement contre la

butée d’arrêt et puisse tourner librement.

Pour ôter une rondelle : Tirez vigoureusement la

rondelle en tournant dans le sens inverse des aiguilles

d’une montre jusqu’à extraction de celle-ci.

BÂTON D’AUTO-ARRÊT WHIPPET

• Le Whippet n’est ni un piolet ni un substitut de piolet.

• Ne pas tenir ni manier le Whippet comme un piolet.

Toujours le tenir par la poignée.

• Entraînez-vous à l’auto-arrêt afin de comprendre les

capacités du Whippet.

• Pour l’auto-arrêt, tenez une main sur le pic du

Whippet, le manche en diagonale le long du torse, et

une main près du système FlickLock Pro.

• Evitez l’auto-éviscération lorsque vous grimpez ou

skiez

ATTENTION : La dragonne de votre Whippet NE SE

DÉTACHE PAS en cas de sollicitation. Nous vous

conseillons d’ôter la dragonne de votre poignet lorsque

vous traversez une zone avalancheuse.

DRAGONNES SWITCH RELEASE

Pour une meilleure sécurité, certains bâtons de ski

Black Diamond sont équipés d’un mécanisme de

déclenchement de dragonne automatique. Ce méca-

nisme se déclenche en cas de sollicitation selon un

angle donné de +/-10° et peut être ré-enclenché sur le

terrain. Le mécanisme de déclenchement de dragonne

est également verrouillable, si souhaité.
